Make one shot in marketing for your million dollars.
“If you made this half-court shot, you get a million dollars,” hypothesises Dennis. “You get one shot. Would you feel pressure? Let’s say you’re not even good at basketball. If I said you’ve got all day and can take as many shots as you want – you only have to make one. Even if you suck at basketball, do you think you can make one? Probably.
“That’s the way we think about digital marketing. If you’re that local San Diego gym, you’re taking many shots; each shot is costing you seven dollars. It might take you 20 shots, or it might take you five shots. It might take you 30 shots! Guess what happens…
“Once you find a winner, because it’s a testimonial, because it’s a tour of the gym, because it’s some funny out-take, because of the receptionist… Because of something, who knows, because of some light-hearted moment that you could have never predicted, you can take that piece and have it live forever.
“That’s what we call a greatest hit. Now you could put another 100 dollars on it, or now you can put another five dollars a day, forever – into infinity!”
